Tinolang Manok by: Cecile

After having that greatest walkathon of my life, Cecile and Exel invited me for dinner at their place.

[Now, that is called Filipino hospitality.] I am happy to know that there are still some good [hindi nila ako ki-nid-nap hahaha... biro lang mga kabaro!] in this world… Remember Exel was really a total stranger to me (that I met in some cafe sa kanto ng broadway! lols - sometimes I could be a babaeng kaladkarin… laging kaladkad ni Doring.) and Cecile too (Exel introduced me to Cecile) - Now that is called networking! Hehehe… So much for the kwento.

Salamat Cecile sa Tinolang Manok! I love it… [Tinola is one of my most favorite Filipino dishes.] So I was really excited when Exel told me that Cecile is about to cook Tinola for dinner… It’s been a long time since the last time I’ve had it (years!), let alone rice! So thank you guys! (Sa wakas nainitan ang sikmura ko.)

Her tinola has chicken of course - kaya nga tinolang manok deva? It has some sayote and bokchoy - Oh my gulay  - Yumi!

Brunch: Longsilog

Filipinos traditionally eat three main meals a day - almusal (breakfast), tanghalian (lunch), and hapunan (dinner) plus an afternoon snack called (merienda). Basically Filipinos love food and eating! [Right Demi?] And believe me every meal there should be rice. A meal with no rice is no meal with the Filipinos! (They even eat rice during midnight snacks no! Hehehehe… Now isn’t that a hard core?)

Yesterday I decided to cook my last brunch in DC and it is lonsilog (longanisa, fried eggs and fried rice with a side of green beans and mayo) Nothing special! I just miss eating this very traditional Filipino breakfast! (It’s been awhile since my body had a dose of MSG no!)

Rice Porridge (Arroz Caldo)

Today I decided to cook some rice porridge with chicken and eggs - Also known as Arroz Caldo. It is better eaten with fried tofu and some fatty fatty parts of the PIG ekkkk, must not forget the pig ears! (tokwa’t baboy) But unfortunately, I don’t know any ETHNIC store here, I am vacationing no! [Shoprite/Geunardi's wont sell any of that "Ethnic Stuffs" PIG's ear and tofu.]

Most people who eats rice porridge are people who are sick and is old… No I am not that old yet, obviously I AM YOUNG! And for everybody’s information? I still have a full set of my teeth hahaha.

- When I was little I used to eat this rice porridge, whenever I was sick and is having a hard time swallowing. And this rice porridge others refer to as goto or lugaw is better eaten after a hard days night or as in night out. For it warms your tummy and it is good too for hangovers! [Hello, manginginom tong kausap nyo!]

The other day I have alot of leftover chicken in the fridge and I just don’t want to throw it in the trash, Geez there’s alot of people all over the world who lives under a dollar a day and is hungry no! And I guess this is one of the many reasons why I am gaining weight? That even I am already filled up I force myself to eat everything that’s in my plate - Wahahaha, what an excuse!

It is better eaten warm! Serve with fish sauce and lime juice. [Pucha try to eat it cold? Di naman kaya parang nasa Dachau concentration camp ka nyan?] So eat it warm! Heeeeheee…

Brunch: Tapsilog

Today, I have decided to cook Tapsilog (dried beef fried to perfection hehehe arte ko!, serve with garlic fried rice and fried eggs) for brunch. I miss eating the silog’s hehehe, ohhhh wait I think something is missing here! That atchara (pickled papaya) and that sabaw (broth) to really complete this meal.

Usually a tapsilog is eaten during breakfast. But for me I eat it for dinner, midnight snack I even substitute it for my dessert! I eat it at any given time! *Aba walang pakialamanan, buhay ko to noh!*

Many thanks Master Chef Joey B!

Last Friday, around afternoon I received a call from my work phone. It’s ChuvaChienes, saying that the Master Chef Joey B. will be in our humble abode to drop off some 10 lbs prince edward mussels - I say (in shock and awe) HUWAT???????? Thanks Joey for the mussels it is soooo GOOD!!! (Very good and very tasty for it is FREE) I heart free stuffs noh! Hehehe… And it’s a pleasure for me to cook for the Master Chef. (He works at some well known restaurant in Philadelphia) So guys just in case you are in the city of brotherly love? Visit Joey B in his very busy kitchen and try his cooking ng ina mo.

Due to popular demand? I am back with the steamed mussels with salsa verde (For my friends blood is verde as in regla ng friends ko verde not pink lol - this is for them! Specially for them.)

Succulent Steamed mussels and Salsa verde.

If YoungCan cook, he can cook too!

Samak has been involved in Thai politics for over 30 years, and has been exploring Thai cuisine on both TV and radio since the 1990s. His cookbook Chimpai Bonpai (meaning “Tasting, Complaining”) is in its ninth edition. After Sundaravej’s election victory in February, he even invited Thai reporters over to his home to sample his homemade noodles. Can’t a man love his politics and noodles? [Many than to my Thai elves namely Ratana and Suraphong!]

What is the luya for? Magtitinola ka ba? Instead of going to the market, do yourself a favor next time - call on ChuvaChienes hehehe…

Prime minister Samak Sundaravej, a well-known foodie and a famous TV chef, has defended himself in the Constitutional Court against accusations that he broke a prohibition on private employment while in office by hosting a television cooking show.

Amaretto Coffee

Here I am again, hanging out in our “infamous patio” after having that good lunch made by Chuva, I want something hot and sweet so I decided to make myself a coffee… Good thing is, we cleaned the house and found an amaretto (a shot or less) so instead of throwing that all up… I decided to make amaretto coffee!

Freshly brewed coffee and put at least 1 or up to 2 tablespoons of amaretto liqueur - but for me at least I’d put 4 tablespoons, I have a very high tolerance on alcohol no, and besides it’s just amaretto uhg.

Oh my gravey. The best coffee ever. Much better than Starbucks - ewww suka I’d rather drink gasoline with a $3.59 a gallon it’s still much cheaper noh! Do the math…

I know it’s much better if I’d put whip cream on top, but hey… I am on a diet- Ahihihihihihihihihihi… So no to whip cream ever ever ever ever. I don’t want to be a fatty fatty bumbum.
